The temple is situated on a hilltop known as Yellamma Gudda, named after the temple itself. The deity worshipped here is associated with Parasurama’s mother, Renuka, and is revered as a fertility goddess. The temple is built in a combination of Chalukyan and Rashtrakuta architectural styles, with evidence of Jain influence as well. tunesharemore_vert

RENUKAA – Daughter of Renu Rishi (or of King Prasenjit?)
Married to – Jamadagni Rishi (Son of Richeek and Satyavatee)
Children – 5 sons – Rumanvaan, Sushen, Vasu, Vishwaavasu and Parashuraam
Wikipedia gives the five sons’ names as Som, Kritwu, Turvasu. Megh and Parashuraam.
–Once Renukaa went to fetch some water from a River for her husband’s worship. There she found Gandharv Raaj playing with his wives in the river. She watched them playing for quite some time and wished for a young husband. Then she overtook her thoughts and soon came back home. But she was late for Rishi’s worship. Rishi knew her mental sin by his Yog power so he got very angry and asked his all sons to behead their mother. But nobody did so except Parashuraam. So he asked Parashuraam to behead his brothers also. He did that also. Jamadagni got very pleased with Parashuraam, he asked him to ask for any Var. He immediately asked their life, requested to incorporate them in the family, and that they should not remember that he killed them. He did so. https://sushmajee.com/reldictionary/names/names-Q-R.htm

HANUMAN, Sankat Mochan Hanuman

Hanumaan

Hanumaan Jee is the most worshipped Devtaa in India and his temples are also in largest number. The most interesting thing about his temple is that one does not need to make a big temple for him. If one keeps even his small statue, one foot or above tall, in a small depression in any wall, it becomes his temple. Even his prayer “Hanumaan Chaaleesaa is also the most sung prayer after “Om Jaya Jagadeesh Hare…” Aaratee.

[3-145] Vaishampaayan Jee said – “They lived there for 6 nights in the expectation of seeing Dhananjaya. Then one day a very fast wind blew from the North-East and it brought a thousand-petal lotus and left it on the ground. Paanchaalee saw it, it was very charming and had a Divine fragrance. She said to Bheem – “See this flower, this is so beautiful. I will give this flower to Yudhishthir, for my pleasure you bring me more such flowers so that I can take them to our Aashram in Kaamyak Van. You bring me many such flowers, I wish to take them to our Aashram.” And she approached Yudhishthir with that flower Bheem got up and set to go to collect such flowers for the pleasure of his beloved. He was going at a fast pace in the direction from which the flower came. He was looking around on the slopes of Gandhmaadan Parvat. There were many kinds of fragrance coming but they were not the same as he was looking for. On the way there were many Gandharv and Kinnar with their wives who were there with their husbands invisibly. He was thinking while going about his vows taken at the time of Draupadee’s insult, then he thought that Arjun had gone to Swarg, what Yudhishthir will do? I hope that out of affection he doesn’t let Nakul and Sahadev come in search of us. How can I get that flower soon?………………….. rest of the story you can read on the link above;

Its all banks were beautiful, a wonder of the world, so romantic in look. Its water was like Amrit – cool and light, clear and fresh. Bheem drank the water to his heart’s satisfaction. This lake was the resort place for Kuber. It was frequently visited by Siddh, Apsaraa, Yaksh, Kimpurush, Raakshas etc. It was guarded by Krodhvash Raakshas wearing uniform and armed with various weapons. Some Facts about DASHRATH in Ramayana

Sushma Gupta has given some interesting facts not known commonly by us about Dashrath in Ramayana

https://sushmajee.com/v-raamaayan/general/1-doyouknow-1.htm

Many names have been mentioned in Vaalmeeki Raamaayan. It is difficult for anybody to remember all the names. A list of most names mentioned in Vaalmeeki Raamaayan is given here according to their first appearance in the Raamaayan along with a brief description. In the Names description, some words, normally names, appear as bold. These are those names which are included in this list.For example see one of the entry in the index;

Bharadwaaj Muni

Ganesh Jee and an Old Blind Woman; Folktale 1

There was a blind old woman who used to worship Ganesh Jee everyday very regularly and with devotion. She had a son and a daughter-in-law also. They were very poor. Once pleased with her devotion Ganesh Jee appeared before her and asked her to ask for anything she liked.

The woman was very innocent, she said – “I don’t know how to ask a Var, so I don’t know what to ask and how to ask.” Ganesh Jee said – “You may consult your son and daughter-in-law, then ask me. I am not in hurry. Take your time. I will come again.” And Ganesh Jee disappeared from there.

The woman told her son about Ganesh’s appearance and asked him as what she should ask from Ganesh Jee, he said, “Ask him the wealth and prosperity.” When she asked her daughter-in-law, she said, “Ask him a grandson.” She thought that everybody thinks of about himself, so she asked her neighbors. The neighbors said – “O woman, You have a very short life now, so you should ask something for yourself, not for other people, so that your remaining life is comfortable.”

After coming home, the woman thought why not to ask such a thing which can satisfy to my son, my daughter-in-law and everybody including myself. So after a few days when Ganesh Jee came again to her and said the same thing, she said – “If you are pleased with me, then give me the wealth of 90 million (9 crores) Rupees – Indian currency, disease-free body, longer life to my husband than mine, good sight in my eyes, grandsons and great grandsons, comfort to all my family and in the end give me Moksh (salvation).”

Ganesh Jee said – “O woman, you have robbed me by asking this Var, but I will still give you all whatever you have asked for.” And Ganesh Jee disappeared from there.

Prayer : “As you gave everything to that woman, give everything to everybody else also like that.”

In its another version: when Ganesh Jee asked the woman to ask only one Var, and that posed the problem to her, she asked him “I wish that I should feed my great grandson in a silver bowl on the third floor of my house by climbing on a gold staircase.”Thus in one Var the woman asked her long age (she will feed her great grandson), wealth and prosperity (by feeding him in silver bowl on the third floor of her house – 3-storeyed house), and health (by asking “climbing through a gold staircase”).

Enlightened Butcher;Dharm or duties

Enlightened Butcher
From   Mahaabhaarat

There was a man whose name was Kaushik. He was the only son of his parents. One day he said to his mother – “Mother, I want to go to forest for spiritual studies.” His mother said – “But my son, Your father is so sick that he cannot move by himself, if you will go away, then who is going to assist us in our daily needs?” But Kaushik did not listen to her and went to forest. His mother watched him going to forest but could not do anything. Eventually Kaushik acquired great mystic powers.

One day he was meditating under a tree, that a crane perched on a branch of a tree and his some droppings fell on his head. Kaushik got very furious, as he gazed at him the bird fell dead. Seeing him dead, Kaushik got very sorry, he thought how it so happened that the anger took over him that way. In the evening he went to ask for some alms. The woman asked him to wait and went inside to bring some food for him. She was bringing it outside that her husband came home. She put the pot of food aside and attended to her husband. After she had attended her husband, she brought the food for Kaushik.

Kaushik had seen his powers already, so he was very proud of his powers. He said to her – “You attended your husband before me, are you aware of Braahman’s powers?” She calmly replied – “Yes, I am aware of them. Braahman is he who has controlled his anger. Please do not threaten me, I am not the crane who will die by your gaze.” Kaushik was astonished to hear this, he thought, “How does she know about the crane incident?”

She continued – “You are a learned Braahman but you have not understood the truth about virtue. If you want to be enlightened, then go to Dharm Vyaadh (Vyaadh means killer of animals) who lives in Mathuraa city. Anyone will tell you his address.” Kaushik thought, “He must be a great sage. I should go and meet him.” So he set off to Mathuraa. But when he reached his place, he found himself standing in front of a butcher’s place. He thought, “How can a butcher be a great sage?”

Seeing Kaushik standing near his shop, he said to him – “Just wait for a while, let me finish the work in my hand, then I will attend you.” He finished all his customers and came to him and said politely – “I know the story of crane and the woman who has sent you here. Come home with me.” Now Kaushik got more surprised than before, “How the hell this Vyaadh knew about both the incidents?” He could not hold his ideas longer, so he said – “Butchering animals is a sinful profession, are you not ashamed of yourself?” The butcher said – “No, No, not at all. This is my ancestral profession. I work hard and honestly at it, there is no reason to be ashamed of it. If you think that I injure other animals, you also injured the crane. When we walk on the ground we kill many living beings and so in the air too.”

Talking thus they came to the butcher’s house. Butcher’s wife was doing her house job and their two children were playing outside. Butcher entered the house, introduced Kaushik to his wife and touched his parents’ feet. He said to his old father – “Here is a learned Braahman who has come here from a far place.” His father welcomed him. The butcher said – “My parents are God for me. My wife and children attend to them sincerely and with great devotion. One finds the true virtue lying in performing his duty cheerfully. This is why that Pativrataa woman has sent you here to learn.” The butcher continued – “You have run away from your duties and deserted your old parents, that is not good. Spiritual achievement is useless if one neglects his Dharm (duties).”

Butcher had opened Kaushik’s eyes. He remembered his mother’s crying face – “Who will take care of us when you are gone?” He said to butcher – “O holy one, You have shown me the path of true virtue, I am deeply indebted to you.” He immediately returned to his parents and served them with love and devotion till they lived.

[One should never neglect his Dharm or duties. The knowledge of Dharm and duties comes by reading scriptures and Dharm Shaastra.]

Glory of Satsang; सत्संग की महिमा

This is a story which Sushma Gupta told me several times telling the importance of Satsang an encouraging me to temple; there are references to many such and other stories;

https://sushmajee.com/shishusansar/stories-religious/5-satsang.htm

There lived a thief who was recently initiated into stealing business. His Guru said to him – “Today you are going first time to steal, take this first lesson from me that when you go, worship our Devee on your way, and be careful not to hear anything from any Satsang if somebody is doing that anywhere. You may use cotton to plug your ears so that you cannot hear even a word of that Satsang. Go and be successful. God bless you.” The thief bowed to him and went away.

As he was going, he was passing by a house where a Guru was delivering a sermon. As soon as he came to know that he was delivering the sermon, he tried to plug his ears. He took out some cotton from his pocket and plugged his ears so that he cannot hear anything of that Satsang sermon, but still by then he had heard one sentence of that sermon, “Bhagavaan has no feet and no shadow.” Although he had no intention to hear that Satsang, but still he could not stop hearing this short sentence by the time he plugged his ears.

He proceeded towards the Devee Temple, prayed there for his success and said – “If I will be successful I will offer you 20% from that money.” By chance another thief was hiding behind the statue of Devee. As the thief prayed, the other thief spoke – “Be blessed, You will be successful in your endeavor.” The thief got very happy to hear this blessing and went to steal. He stole the money and came back to the Temple and offered Devee’s share to her as he promised to do it. The other thief said – “Be happy.”

Meanwhile the thief raised his eyes and found that a shadow was falling in the light of the lamp which was kept in front of Devee. He got scared, he rubbed his eyes and looked at the statue again, this time he saw two feet also behind the statue. He remembered the Satsang that “Bhagavaan has no feet and no shadow.” But he was seeing both, the feet as well as the shadow. He immediately understood that she cannot be Bhagavaan, so he collected the money from the feet of Devee, took his stick out and came to the back of the statue.

There he found a man hiding behind the statue, he hit him with his stick several times and brought him down. He came back to his Guru with his full money.
